The Theme of This Year's End Dependence Day is Rest!

Unwind after work with us for an afternoon full of celebration, learning, and some much needed rest!

End-Dependence Day is Black Yield Institute's annual celebration of World Food Day.

Traditionally, we release a significant report or research study during this event. This year is no different, as we will release our Cherry Hill Food Apartheid Study.

You may have noticed that the theme of this year's event is Rest Fest. While we have our study to share as well as the unveiling of the Vault, our community knowledge hub, it is important for us to remember rest.

Without rest all of our work towards liberation is useless. We deserve to work hard, enjoy the fruits of our labor, celebrate, and rest!

Agenda

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Nappy Hour

Nappy Hours are a space for a collective exhale. We all have stressors in our life from work to home so we invite you to a space designed for us to chill. We will have various stations set up in the space for you to interact with along with places to simply be.

4:00 PM - 4:30 PM Little Timbuktu Lending Library Ribbon Cutting

This will commemorate the physical opening of the Little Timbuktu Lending Library with event goers having the first opportunity to browse the selection of books that we have procured.

4:30 PM - 5:00 PM Nappy Hour

5:00 PM - 5:30 PM Food Apartheid Study Debrief

This portion will be dedicated to sharing the results of our Cherry Hill Food Apartheid study while opening up a conversation around its results and their implications.

5:30 - 7:00 Nappy Hour

Food and drinks will be provided for attendees

The Vault

The Vault is Black Yield's political education platform including tools and information related to Black Liberation struggle and Black life, publicly available for learning and organizing. Engaging all senses, the content includes an open-access library, a multi-media archive, and an interactive food creation portal.

The Vault project is made up of three key components; The Black Life Archive, The Little Timbuktu Lending Library, and Food Sovereignty and Me.

The Black Life Archive contain stories of Cherry Hill community members reflecting on memories of the community along with stories from a digital storytelling workshop hosted by Black Yield Institute.

Food Sovereignty and Me is a collection of cooking videos spotlighting recipes from across the African Diaspora.
